WSJ robo-drone report
edited to shield Israel
The threat of robo-drones,
which shoot to kill on their own authority, is a very serious threat,
according to a a summary by two experts for the Wall Street Journal.
Sanitzed version of WSJ report

I happened to notice that mention of Israel's role in the sale of
such drones was removed from the Wall Street Journal's online version of
the article, and Google searches show no online version with those
references. In addition, I also took a look today at a print copy of
Friday's paper, and found that the references were also missing from
that edition, implying that I had seen an early edition with the
commentary.
(I also have the impression that the early edition article has been pared in other ways.)
The
authors, Robert H. Latiff and Patrick J. McCloskey, had noted that Israel had sold Harpy drones that automatically
fire toward those radar sources not found in computer memory as
"friendly." The authors wondered about the consequence of an adversary
putting a radar site atop, say, a hospital. The drone would show no
mercy, lacking human judgment, they said.
Here are some references to Israel and Harpy drones I found:
"U.S. intelligence agencies have observed Chinese forces with
Israeli-made anti-radar weapons moving them close to the coast opposite
Taiwan, The Washington Times reported on Tuesday."
