The Flight 800 coverup: still relevant

Roger Aranoff just won't drop the matter of TWA Flight 800. Aranoff, an analyst with the conservative group Accuracy in Media, draws out some relevant points in his article at
http://www.aim.org/aim-column/mystery-of-twa-flight-800-lives-on/ :

# There is very strong evidence of a federal conspiracy to cover up the nature of the downing of TWA Flight 800. A missile or missiles, fired either by Navy warships during an exercise, or by terrorists, is viewed as the cause.

# The mainstream media behaved pretty much as a public relations arm of the government when covering the investigation.

I'd like to point out that AIM's articles about the 9/11 attacks discuss conspiracy, but aim at putting the onus on actions of the Clinton administration. However, if AIM is correct about the downing of Flight 800 -- which I am quite sure it is -- then what is to have prevented a conspiracy and coverup regarding 9/11?

I suppose AIM is making a distinction here: the suggestion if that, with regard to Flight 800, the government covered up a blunder -- either by being too careless with respect to terrorists or a naval exercise gone wrong. A conspiracy within the government to shoot down the plane is not suggested.

And AIM takes a similar line with regard to 9/11. However, I would argue that a government that can move heaven and earth to thwart general public awareness of blunders behind high death tolls is also capable of deliberately instigating high death tolls for political reasons.
