Whether his change in status has anything to do with the Gaza flotilla fiasco is anybody's guess.
There is speculation that while in Israel he gave a thumbs up to the commando plan.

Some video shows Israeli commandos firing paintball guns. However, it's hard to be sure of the origin of that video. There is quite a bit of suspicion that Israelis played games with video and audio footage.
Still, it's possible some commandos fired paintballs with paint that's luminescent to night vision gear. The idea would have been to mark targets the Israelis could see but their adversaries couldn't.
Anyway, I'm not suggesting the commandos landed with the intention of killing people.
I believe such a risky operation was conducted in order to stifle international media coverage (or "pro-Hamas propaganda").
Turkey should conduct its own independent investigation of the flotilla fiasco, not to compete with a UN probe, but to complement it. That way, if the UN probe is squelched, world media will have not only Israel's report, but Turkey's for a counterweight.
Homegrown terror threats require the feds to monitor the internet, says Homeland Security chief Janet Napolitano.

She says basic American freedoms only need be infinged here and there, and not that much. Reports of her June 18 speech are scanty of detail.
If she means feds can monitor jihadist chat rooms, she is in the company of ACLU chief Anthony D. Romero.
But what "trade-offs" does she have in mind for internet monitoring? Are we back to data mining for "hot words," or what? Covert sampling of emails? She's holding her cards close to her vest.
I checked Homeland Security for a transcript of her speech. Nada.
